As a rapidly growing city, we need to provide frequent and reliable public transit options

Transit should work for everyone. I am committed to building a system that is affordable, reliable, and safe. I will freeze transit fares and expand the Fair Entry program to reduce financial barriers. We’ll increase frequency and reliability by fast-tracking bus-only lanes and working toward a 24-hour core service. I will fiercely champion the Green Line to completion. And together, we'll make riding transit more enjoyable and secure, from adding station amenities and Transit Ambassadors to supporting compassionate care for those in need. My goal is a transit system that truly meets the needs of our Ward 7 residents.

Preventing pricing Calgarians off the bus

GOALS:

Reduce financial barriers to accessing transit for Calgarians

HOW WE GET THERE:

Freeze transit fares at the 2025 rate for the next 4 years
Ensure continued funding for the City of Calgary Fair Entry Program, including the provincial support
Provide the option to purchase annual passes at a discounted rate (compared to monthly)
Expand the time period validity to 2 hours to account for the travel time across an increasingly growing city
Continue to push for, and leverage, both capital and operational funding from provincial and federal programs.
Discuss the need to view transit as a tax-subsidized service, removing arbitrary fare-recovery targets

Increase arrival time frequency and reliability of transit

GOALS:

Make transit a viable option that people can choose because of convenience and ease of use

HOW WE GET THERE:

Fasttrack funding for dedicated transit infrastructure like bus-only lanes, queue jumps, and bus stop carveouts to keep busses and traffic moving and reliable
Expanding the network of arrival time signage beyond the MAX lines and C-Train
Running the core transit system 24-hours a day to make it a viable option for Calgarians that require transit to get around
Fund the recommendations outlined in the Route Ahead policy document
Push for the continued shift of the transit network from a hub-and-spoke design that funnels transit downtown at the cost of community connections
Fight for and support meaningful transit oriented development in our ward 7 communities
Pilot the use of GPS Transit Signal Priority integration into traffic light operation to allow for lights to account for the proximity of transit prior to changing.

Fight for the Green Line

GOALS:

Ensure that the City prioritizes green line development

HOW WE GET THERE

Requiring administration to have a shovel-ready plan for the final stretch of “phase 1” between Eau Claire and 16th Avenue by Q4 2026
Convert Centre St North outside lanes to bus-only during peak hours to expedite (short-term)
End the lane reversals on Centre Street that cause chaos and accidents, while having a limited effect on traffic flow
Complete the design of dedicated bus lanes along Centre St, with the intention of being able to be converted to LRT when funding for the north leg of the green line becomes available
Champion the green line to both provincial and federal governments to ensure that it is a top priority for future infrastructure investments
Direct city administration to work with utility providers, contracts, and all other relevant parties to minimize disturbances from construction and continue to provide supports for those businesses affected by construction and road closures

Make riding transit enjoyable

GOALS:

Make Ward 7 C-Train stations and vehicles more accessible and more welcoming while increasing the feeling of safety

HOW WE GET THERE:

Increase eyes on the platform through the opening of small businesses and staffed washrooms at Sunnyside and Lions Park LRT stations
Increase lighting and restore heaters to C-Train stations as well as MAX bus lines
Continue to identify funds to be leveraged to update and grow Calgary’s bus fleet, including electric buses
Expand the Calgary Transit Ambassadors program to help aid in understanding and utilizing the transit system
Restore seating back to stations where it has been removed recently
Improve wayfinding to and from key transit stations to improve rider experience, and integrate wayfinding with the pathway and cycling network
In conjunction with housing providers and social support organizations, work to focus on compassionate support for people that need assistance on transit or at transit stops
Incorporate trauma-informed and cultural sensitivity training for all front line staff, including Calgary Police, Transit Police, By-law enforcement, etc. to aid in the de-escalation of crisis situations
Advocate to the province for additional supervised consumption site development and health supports alongside using a housing-first approach to support those in need
Provide support for increased daytime programming and warming/cooling centres, including underused civic facilities, to help prevent the use of transit stations as refuges
