Priorities

Creating communities through innovation and imagination

Ward 7 deserves strong and independent representation on city council. As your council representative, I will focus on building communities that allow people of all ages, stages, and abilities to thrive. To accomplish this, my focus will be in five main areas.

Unleash safe, affordable housing for all

Proactively protect tenants' rights by

  • Developing a landlord licensing system that ensures safe living conditions through incentives and enforcement
  • Enacting a maximum heat bylaw to save Calgarians’ lives and health as summer temperatures rise every year

Incentivize the construction of affordable housing and rentals by

  • Eliminating all city development fees for nonprofit and co-operative housing
  • Providing discounted development fees for purpose-built rental housing

Build housing faster, with certainty, by

  • Mandating a maximum 60-day wait on housing development permit applications
  • Changing Calgary's multi-residential zoning category to include housing as a permitted use
Build transit that won’t leave you out in the cold

Prevent pricing Calgarians off the bus by

  • Freezing transit fares
  • Offering discounted annual transit passes

Increase arrival time frequency by

  • Investing in 24-hour service for C-Trains, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines, and Max Bus lines
  • Actually funding Calgary Transit’s plan to provide 10-minute service for C-Trains, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines, and Max Bus lines

Fight for the Green Line by

  • Advocating for the Green Line to be built underground through downtown
  • Prioritizing construction of the Green Line’s northern leg
  • Getting to work on a north-south Green Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) until we build the Green Line LRT

End the unreliability of bus arrival time by

  • Creating more dedicated bus lanes to accelerate bus travel time
  • Building bus stop carve outs, which unclog traffic and maintain route time

Make riding transit enjoyable by

  • Welcoming small coffee and snack kiosks at C-Train stations
  • Restoring and expanding heating for sheltered bus stops and C-Train stations
  • Installing staffed public washrooms at suitable C-Train stations
  • Rolling out improved arrival time signage at bus stops
Bring back the community corner store

Bolster Calgary’s resilience against tariffs by

  • Allowing small-scale storefronts in all neighbourhoods, keeping Calgary’s dollars local
  • Encouraging housing units to be built above local storefronts to make businesses more viable
  • Establish city guides and supports for Calgarians wanting to convert part of their home into a small business
Make Ward 7 walkable, bikeable, accessible

Improve pedestrian safety and accessibility by

  • Piloting city sidewalk snow removal in Ward 7
  • Building sidewalk bump outs at crosswalks, which shortens crossing distance and increases drivers’ visibility of pedestrians before crossing
  • Raising crosswalks to sidewalk height at key entrances to residential areas, which reduces sharp turn speeds and improves accessibility
  • Rapidly repairing our cracked, uneven sidewalk network

Create healthy and safe mobility options by

  • Linking safe walking, wheeling, and transit routes to schools, parks, and recreation centres
  • Developing a protected (not just painted!) bike lane network
Invest in pools, playgrounds, public services

Transform our crumbling recreation centres by

  • Saving existing rec centres, pools, and arenas from closure through proactive investment, not reactive bandaids
  • Using the Fieldhouse redevelopment to secure more community sports facilities and public spaces
  • Designing walking, bike, and transit routes to run directly to recreation centres
