Protecting small businesses from disruption
GOALS:
- Enable necessary construction and infrastructure upgrades while minimizing harm to small businesses
HOW WE GET THERE:
- Establish a Calgary Major Construction Relief Fund based on the Main Streets Business Support Grant that provides financial support to small businesses affected by major city construction projects.
- Shorten project timelines and prevent delays by implementing construction sequencing, in which the city ensures the contractor carefully pre-plans each construction phase before the project begins and executes promptly to minimize disruption.
- Time the intensity of construction activities during off-peak times or seasons for surrounding businesses.
